Sade Sati — check the dates

About 7.5 years of Saturn's passage around your Moon. We'll calculate whether it's currently active, which phase you're in, and until when — accounting for Saturn's retrograde returns, which most calculators skip.

The Moon crosses a sign in just over two days — if you were born close to a sign boundary, the time can matter.

What is Sade Sati?

It's a period of about seven and a half years in which Saturn passes through the sign of your natal Moon and the two neighboring signs. It happens two to three times in a lifetime. Tradition treats it as a time of trial — more accurately, it's a time of putting things in order, maturing, and cutting away what no longer fits.

Does Sade Sati mean misfortune?

No. It's a demanding but developmental period — classical texts stress that how it unfolds depends on Saturn's condition in the birth chart and on how a person lives during that time. Many people build the most lasting things in their life precisely during Sade Sati.

How can I know the exact dates?

Saturn is retrograde for about 4.5 months a year and can return to a sign it already left. That's why we calculate the end of a phase as Saturn's LAST exit from the sign — many calculators stop at the first time it crosses the boundary and give a date up to nine months too early.

What is Sade Sati?

Sade Sati (“seven and a half”) is the period in Vedic astrology when Saturn passes through the three signs around your Moon: the sign before it, the Moon's own sign and the sign after it. Saturn spends about 2.5 years in each sign, so the whole period lasts roughly seven and a half years and usually happens two or three times in a lifetime.

Jyotish does not see Sade Sati as a punishment but as a time of maturing: Saturn tests what is built solidly and what holds only out of habit. It is a good period for putting things in order, taking responsibility and building for the long term.

The calculator works out whether Sade Sati is running, which phase you are in and exactly until when — including Saturn's retrograde returns, which often shift the end date by several months.

Frequently asked questions

What are the phases of Sade Sati?

Three of about 2.5 years each: rising (Saturn in the sign before the Moon — outer changes in surroundings and work), peak (Saturn on the Moon — felt most strongly emotionally) and setting (Saturn in the sign after the Moon — closing matters and stabilising).

Is Sade Sati always difficult?

No. Much depends on Saturn's strength in the birth chart and on the lagna. For some signs Saturn is a benefic, and Sade Sati brings promotion or stability — though usually through effort.

Do I need my birth time?

Usually the date is enough. The Moon changes sign every two days or so, so the time matters only if you were born near the boundary of two signs.

Why do other calculators give a different end date?

Many take Saturn's first entry into a sign and ignore its retrograde returns. We calculate the exact dates, including the returns.

What to do during Sade Sati?

Simplify, put things in order, keep your commitments and avoid shortcuts. How it fits into your year is shown by the yearly horoscope.
